A Montgomery County duo who have bought tickets together for years had their biggest day ever this past weekend. Connected by family and an enjoyment of Lottery games, they were in the car, moments away from leaving a Lottery retailer after an unsuccessful visit, when they returned to try one more ticket. A few minutes later, thanks to a $20 FAST PLAY MONOPOLY™ Properties ticket, they were millionaires.
“We had tried a few scratch-off tickets and had no winners,” one of the pair, a Chevy Chase resident, told Lottery officials upon claiming the prize on Jan. 8. They had started backing out of their parking spot at Lake Forest Exxon when they reconsidered.
“I had had sort of a lucky feeling all day, which was why we were there,” she said. “And I still had it.”
They picked MONOPOLY™ Properties this time, and were rewarded with a $100 win. The two decided to try one more before heading to their respective homes.
“My hands started shaking so much that I barely was able to check to see if it was really a $1 million winner,” said one.
“His face was so pale and there were tears in his eyes,” said the other.
Together they confirmed their amazing good fortune, returned to the car and let the emotions flow.
“We were a mess! It was very emotional. It was a while before we were able to leave the parking lot.”
MONOPOLY™ Properties debuted in March of 2025. This top-prize win leaves 14 more $1 million winners still in circulation, along with 15 winners at the $10,000 level.
Lake Forest Exxon, at 448 North Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg, receives a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
