Retired Factory Worker in Cambridge Assembles $100,000 Lottery Win

A Cambridge woman claimed the first $100,000 top prize on the $10 50X the Cash scratch-off that launched in January.

The Dorchester County woman had just finished her grocery shopping when she stopped at one of her favorite Lottery retailers, Cambridge Lottery Store, to play her Pick 3, 4 and 5 numbers for the day. A fan of a range of Lottery games, she also decided to purchase a scratch-off ticket. She left for another errand before she decided to play the game. In the midst of taking care of business at the next location, her big win was revealed.

“I was scratching the ticket and I saw the 10X and thought maybe I won $500,” she said. “But then I saw the $10,000 underneath it and was shocked.”

That meant the player had just won $100,000. To be certain, she scanned the ticket on her phone, confirming the big win.

“I was so nervous, I left that store and went to another location to scan it there,” she shared with Lottery officials when she claimed the prize on Jan. 29. “It said to go the Lottery to claim and I just couldn’t believe it.”

After the big winner’s many confirmations, she finally made it home and shared the news with her husband. She then locked the ticket away until it was time for her to claim the prize.

She shared with Lottery officials that she plans to save the winnings, adding the prize money to her retirement fund.

Also celebrating this win is the retailer that sold the winning ticket, the Cambridge Lottery Store at 222 Washington Street in Cambridge. The store receives a $1,000 bonus.

The 50X the Cash scratch-off, that launched in January with nine $100,000 top prizes, now has eight. All 10 of the $50,000 second-tier prizes remain unclaimed as well as 22 $10,000 prizes and hundreds of thousands of prizes between $10 and $1,000.
