Second-Choice Ticket Delivers $1 Million Scratch-off Win

A Prince George’s County man’s lottery “itch” came early last weekend. His routine has him buying his tickets for the week every Monday, but when returning from an appointment on Sunday he opted to get an early start – a decision that would change his life.

“It wasn’t even the ticket I wanted,” the Upper Marlboro resident told Lottery officials. It seems he had his heart set on the $30 200X the Cash ticket, one that had proven lucky for him recently. “They were out of them, so I went with the $20 100X the Cash version.”

Departing with two of these tickets, he scratched the first in his car but found no luck. The second, however, was a very different story. “When I saw the $1 million, I thought there’s no way this can be right.” He returned to the store, forcing himself not to hurry. Playing it cool, he headed directly for the Lottery ticket scanner.

“I saw a bunch of zeroes so I had to count them carefully. I was so excited I kept losing track. It took me three times, but then I was pretty sure it was true.” To remove all doubt, our winner asked the store clerk to check his ticket. The result: “High fives and handshakes.”

100X the Cash debuted in January with seven $1 million top prizes. This Upper Marlboro win leaves four still available. Two of the game’s $50,000 winners also remain unclaimed.

Our winner found his luck at the 301 Travel Plaza at 3511 Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro. They will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the $1 million top-prize-winning ticket.
