THE BIG SPIN® Fattens Waldorf Lottery Winner’s Pockets with $110,000

A Maryland Lottery player from Charles County is using the nickname “Mr. Fat Pockets” after THE BIG SPIN scratch-off put an extra $110,000 in his pockets.

“Mr. Fat Pockets,” a retiree from Charles County, lived up to his nickname June 30 when he took a spin on The Big Spin Wheel and won a $110,000 prize on the $5 THE BIG SPIN scratch-off game.

The retired D.C. metro worker is a regular Lottery player who enjoys draw games and likes trying scratch-offs as soon as they hit store shelves. Since THE BIG SPIN debuted in April, it has become one of his favorites.

His winning experience started with a bit of confusion.

After revealing the “SPIN” symbol on his ticket, “Mr. Fat Pockets” wasn’t sure what he had won. He took the ticket to a retailer, who suggested he contact the Lottery.

“Mr. Fat Pockets” called the Lottery and was able to confirm he had a top-prize winner, giving him the fifth of eight opportunities to spin the game’s giant prize wheel and win anywhere from $50,000 to $250,000.

“I have to go to Baltimore,” he told his wife, who already had a feeling it was good news.

“You got something,” she recalled telling him.

The retired couple describe themselves as “settled,” enjoying life’s simple pleasures. When he’s not playing Lottery games, “Mr. Fat Pockets” spends his time fishing throughout Maryland, while his wife enjoys visiting bingo halls.

“Mr. Fat Pockets” and his wife arrived at Lottery headquarters June 30 eager to see where The Big Spin Wheel would land. Their anticipation turned into celebration when the wheel stopped on $110,000. The excitement of the six-digit prize quickly set in. The two say they’ll pay off a few bills with part of the winnings and enhance their financial security with the rest.

His winning scratch-off was purchased at Waldorf Liquors at 2276 Crain Highway in Waldorf. The Charles County retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

THE BIG SPIN is a $5 scratch-off game that launched March 20. Players who reveal a “SPIN” symbol can scan their scratch-off at a Lottery retailer or by using the My Lottery Rewards app. Most “SPIN” symbols lead to a cash prize of $10 to $250, but eight winning tickets will send players to try their luck with The Big Spin Wheel at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. That spin will award a minimum prize of $50,000 and up to $250,000. Three of those remain unclaimed.

Players can also win instant prizes on the ticket. There is one $50,000 instant top prize remaining, along with thousands of prizes ranging from $5 and $5,000.
