A Western Maryland scratch-off fan, who went to pick up dinner, came home with hot food and hot pockets. That’s because he found a $77,777 top prize win on the Triple Red 7s Multiplier scratch-off game. A couple weeks ago, the Cumberland man was getting a pizza for his family and, on the way home, he decided to stop at the Sheetz at 429 Virginia Avenue in Cumberland to play some Lottery games. He purchased a couple tickets, including the $10 Triple Red 7s Multiplier game and scratched the games in the store. He was in for a huge surprise.
“I saw I had the ‘7’ symbol and thought it was just a regular winner,” he said when he visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize on July 1. “But then I saw the prize and I couldn’t believe it.”
The Lottery fan was staring at a $77,777 winner, but to confirm the win, he scanned the ticket at the Sheetz store.
“When I saw that ‘Go to Lottery’ message, I knew it was really a big winner,” he said.
The warehouse employee quickly headed home to deliver the hot pizza and the hot news about his win to his wife and daughter.
“He comes through the door with the pizza and the scratch-off and said, ‘Guess what I won?’” shared his daughter when she accompanied her dad to claim the prize. “I had to look at it a few times to be sure.”
“I told her it was the real deal,” smiled the winner.
After showing off his win to his family, he locked the winning ticket in a safe and made arrangements to claim the prize in Baltimore. He told Lottery officials that he plans to pay off some bills with his $77,777 prize.
Also celebrating the win is the Sheetz store that sold the ticket. The store receives a 1 percent bonus of $777.77 for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off.
The Triple Red 7s family of games went on sale in May with lots of prizes still up for grabs. The $10 Triple Red 7s Multiplier ticket has eight unclaimed $77,777 top prizes still available, along with 20 prizes at the $10,000 level and thousands of other prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
