A Berwyn Heights woman digs into her stash of already played Racetrax tickets, replays one of them and wins $30,879. It all happened Sept. 24 when the nurse was on her way to work.
The Prince George’s County player stopped at Parkway Liquors that day to cash some scratch-offs that she had purchased earlier, one of them being a $100 winner. She in turn used the winnings to play Racetrax.
“I had a stack of tickets that I had already played and I just picked one,” she said. “I just asked the cashier to repeat that ticket.”
The replayed ticket was a $20 Trifecta good for 20 races with the numbers 10, 12 and 11.
She put the new ticket away and stopped at another location to pick up some groceries. That spot was also a Lottery retailer, and when she looked up at the Racetrax monitor, she saw something amazing: her numbers appeared on the screen. If the horses were in the right order, that would mean a $30,879 prize!
“I was speechless,” she said. “I grabbed my ticket to make sure it was in the right order and it sure was.”
She was so excited, she called off work that day and shared the good news with her children and the pastor of her church.
“I hinted to him that something good may be coming his way,” she smiled. “Things happen for a reason and this happened at the perfect time.”
The player’s church is undergoing some renovations and she plans to donate some of her winnings towards that effort. When claiming her prize earlier on Sept. 25, she also said she plans to pay off some bills and take care of a few jobs around the house.
This is not the Prince George’s County winner’s first brush with good fortune, as earlier this year she won a significant amount playing Keno, her favorite game.
Parkway Liquors at 6017 Greenbelt Avenue in Berwyn Heights receives a bonus of $308.79 for selling the high-tier winning Racetrax ticket.
