Adelphi man’s Eastern Shore Trip Nets Him a $50,000 Prize

Prince George’s County resident finds third-tier win playing Powerball

Visiting out-of-town family members can be a great thing, especially when combining the trip with the purchase of a Powerball ticket that delivers a $50,000 prize.

An Adelphi man was traveling along the Eastern Shore to visit family in Delaware when he stopped by Royal Farms #080, which is located at 32303 Queen Anne’s Highway in Queen Anne. He bought a $2 quick-pick Powerball ticket while in the store.

The next day, he checked the winning numbers for the Sept. 10 Powerball drawing and saw that he matched four of the five numbers along with the Power Ball. The 75-year-old said he remained calm and was not overly excited about the win, adding that he has been on the verge of a big win and had already had some luck playing Powerball.

“I keep hitting the Power Ball,” he said, “and there have been times where I have gotten two to three numbers. I thought maybe one day, I would win more.”

At this time, he plans to put the money in the bank and may use the prize later for a vacation. The retired sheet metal worker said he will keep buying Powerball tickets in hopes of winning the jackpot.

“I will keep playing and, hopefully, I will be back here after I win a couple hundred million,” he said.

No one has hit the Powerball jackpot recently, which stands at an estimated $270 million annuity for the Saturday, Sept. 24 drawing with a cash option of $145.5 million.
