Fan of jackpot games buys winning ticket in Oct. 19 drawing
A Cecil County resident said he wasn’t all that surprised when he landed a $50,000 prize in the Oct. 19 Powerball drawing.
“I’ve been lucky all of my life,” he player said last week after claiming his third-tier prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
On Oct. 19, he had that lucky feeling. The fan of jackpot games has a series of Powerball combinations he usually plays but on Oct. 19, he added another five quick-pick combinations. One of those extra combinations carried the $50,000 payday! He made his fortunate purchase at Schroeder’s Liquors, which is located at 479 North East Road in North East.
The winner – who plays Powerball and Mega Millions and reports never missing a drawing – says it wasn’t his first good luck with the big jackpot games. He hit for $1,500 last year as his share in a group win. The group members nominated him to be the point person because of his good fortune. And, shortly after realizing his $50,000 Powerball ticket was a winner, he hit again for $500.
The lucky winner said he has no major plans for his prize money, adding that it will all go into savings.
No one hit the Powerball jackpot last weekend and there’s still time to buy tickets for the Monday, Jan. 9 drawing. The estimated jackpot annuity is $340 million and the estimated cash option is $178.2 million.
