Finds big win with Ca$h Bonus game
If you won $100,000 on a Maryland Lottery game, would you leap off the sofa and jump up and down in celebration? That’s what an Annapolis man did when he revealed a $100,000 prize on a Ca$h Bonus scratch-off.
The father of two, who is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, was home alone when his big win occurred. The scratch-off fan favors $5 and $10 games. He plays scratch-offs regularly as a hobby with his wife’s blessing ever since he won a Maryland Lottery second-chance promotion involving the Baltimore Ravens.
On the day he found his lucky instant ticket, the 64-year-old stopped by Cape St. Claire Shell in Annapolis to buy games to play later. He routinely goes online to mdlottery.com to research top prizes remaining on $5 and $10 scratch-offs before he buys his tickets. The $10 Ca$h Bonus game, at that time, had five top prizes remaining along with four $50,000 prizes and 13 $10,000 prizes, so he made sure to buy at least one of those instant tickets. What happened after he got home was anything but routine.
“I was sitting at home, watching TV and scratching them off,” he said. With the Ca$h Bonus game, one way to win is by matching two identical numbers in the same game to win the prize in that game. The second row of the game’s prize blocks revealed a matching set of “5s” and underneath, a top prize of $100,000.
“I had to look at it four or five times,” he said. He laughed, admitting that when he realized he really won he leapt from the sofa to celebrate. “I got up and jumped around a little bit.”
His wife initially didn’t believe he won when she returned home and heard his great news, he said, and they haven’t told anyone of their good fortune. Most of their top-secret prize will go into savings, although they may splurge a little with some of the funds, he said.
Although our Anne Arundel County resident won the fourth of eight top prizes in the game, plenty of other prizes ranging from $10 to $50,000 remain unclaimed.
Benefiting from its lucky sale is Cape St. Claire Shell. For selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the Anne Arundel County retailer located at 1318 Cape St. Claire Road receives a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.
