Anne Arundel County Lottery Player Scores $40,020 Mega Millions Win

A longtime Maryland Lottery player recently scored his biggest prize yet – a $40,020 Mega Millions win. The government employee, who chose to remain anonymous, stopped by Lottery headquarters in Baltimore on June 11 to share his winning moment and reflect on years of playing that paid off big.

What started as a casual hobby has turned into a well-established routine for this veteran player. He buys his tickets every two weeks.

“I’ve been playing for more than two decades,” he said. “Mega Millions and Powerball are the games I enjoy playing the most.”

On a recent Sunday, he visited his favorite retailer, Exxon at the Mills at 7671 Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover to scan a handful of tickets purchased in May. One ticket displayed the message every seasoned player knows to look for: “Winner, take to Lottery.”

“As soon as I saw that message, I knew it meant something big,” he said. “But when I found out it was $40,020, the most I’ve ever won, I was in disbelief. I really felt lucky.”

The winner plans to use his prize money to pay off bills and invest in home renovations with a focus on upgrading his bathroom.
