Purchasing and playing scratch-off tickets is a process with which he is very familiar, a visitor to Lottery headquarters said Sept. 9, noting that a late-August purchase of a THE PRICE IS RIGHT™ ticket has changed much for the Anne Arundel County man and his wife.
The emotions that came with the $50,000 top prize win he uncovered in August had not abated nearly a month later.
“I do pretty well with your scratch games,” the Arnold man said. “I’ve won more than a few big prizes over the years – a few of them more than $15,000 each.”
These significant wins did not prepare him for what his THE PRICE IS RIGHT™ ticket had in store for him, though.
The construction worker said he bought his ticket while getting lunch, and chose the game because it was a new one, having hit shelves Aug. 21.
“I like brand new games because all of the big prizes are still available,” he explained.
Scratching his ticket there at the store – the 7-Eleven at 497 Jumpers Hole Road in Severna Park – the Lottery veteran was overjoyed to discover his win.
“It was so exciting. I tried my best to keep quiet but my friend saw the prize amount and started shouting.”
The winner took a slight detour on his way back to the work site, stopping at home to give his wife the valuable ticket for safekeeping.
“When I told her what we’d won, she started crying. We were both a mess,” he said.
The couple plans to replace appliances and furniture in their house. Even at the time of claiming, weeks after the big day, they had difficulty containing their emotions as they spoke about the soon-to-come changes to their home – changes that they didn’t expect to happen for several years.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT™ is a $5 game and the Anne Arundel win is the first top-prize to be claimed. Five more $50,000 winners remain in circulation, along with eight $5,000 second-tier prizes. The Severna Park 7-Eleven receives a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.
The game also includes a fun second-chance promotion. Non-winning THE PRICE IS RIGHT™ scratch-offs can be entered into My Lottery Rewards for a chance to win a GAME SHOW EXPERIENCE Trip Prize Package. Six winners will be selected to receive a five-day, four-night trip for two to Los Angeles, California, $1,000 spending money and a group excursion. While in Los Angeles, each trip winner will get a chance to participate in the lottery exclusive GAME SHOW EXPERIENCE Event for the chance to win a share of up to $10 million.
