Auto Mechanic Feels Like He’s in a Dream after Scratch-Off Win

Columbia man claims $57,777 top prize on Winning 7 scratch-off

A Howard County man started the new year off right by locking in a $57,777 Lottery scratch-off win. He recalled that on New Year’s Day, he found himself looking at the new $5 Winning 7 scratch-off and being so intrigued by it that he decided to try his luck.

The Columbia resident plays Maryland Lottery games often but was not at all expecting to have a top-prize winning scratch-off come his way. The auto mechanic bought his winning instant ticket at Lark Brown Liquors located at 6590 Old Waterloo Road in Elkridge. He frequently buys Lottery games there.

After scratching off his Winning 7 ticket, the 38-year-old saw that he had matched a winning number of 15 for a corresponding top prize of $57,777. “It was like I was in a dream,” the happy winner said. He then called his girlfriend and his brother to share the exciting news.

The father of two, who has worked as an auto mechanic for 10 years, plans to use his prize to start his own business. Lucky retailer Lark Brown Liquors will receive a bonus of $577.77 from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off worth $57,777. The Winning 7s game went on sale in November with eight top prizes; there are still five remaining.
