Baltimore Coin Collector Wins $100,000 Chunk of Change on Scratch-Off Ticket

A Baltimore collector of rare coins, who is also a Lottery scratch-off enthusiast, just scored a big chunk of change. Thanks to a $100,000 Crossword scratch-off, he had a $100,000 payday on Oct. 1.

He purchased his winning ticket at Whitey’s Liquors at 803 North Hammonds Ferry Road in Linthicum. Ticket selection was pretty simple for the Baltimore numismatists (a moniker that also covers stamp and currency collectors) as he only plays crossword-themed scratch-off tickets. He bought the ticket on a Thursday and the by the next day he had scratched it and learned he had scored the $100,000 prize.

The winner retired from UPS after 30 years and enjoys collecting rare coins as a retirement hobby. He has no specific plans for the most recent addition to his collection, that being his prize money.

Whitey’s Liquors also gets in on the action, as the shop will collect a $1,000 bonus.

The $10 game $100,000 Crossword was launched Aug. 20 with nine $100,000 top prizes. This win leaves seven top-prizes remaining unclaimed, along with many lower tier winners.
