Blessed, happy and shocked is how a retired federal employee described his emotions after winning $50,000 playing the Lottery’s Pick 5 game. Lottery luck made the unexpected visit earlier this week.
The Baltimore County man enjoys the Pick games and plays regularly. On Monday, June 9, he stopped at the Woodmoor Shell gas station in Gwynn Oak and grabbed a few tickets. One of them was a $1 straight Pick 5 ticket for the June 9 evening drawing and the June 10 midday drawing.
It wasn’t until the next day that he checked his tickets revealing the big win.
“I went online and pulled up the numbers and was in disbelief,” he said. “I’ve been playing that number for years and I knew it looked familiar.”
Even still, he wasn’t sure so he headed up to his local retailer who scanned the Pick 5 ticket and shared the exciting news that he was a $50,000 winner. Not being able to cash that amount there, the retailer instructed him to go to Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore. He claimed his prize on June 12.
When speaking with Lottery officials, the happy winner was relieved that he can now make some much needed home improvements and buy some new furniture.
“I just feel so blessed right now,” he shared. “I’m going to try to save some of it too, because you should always be prepared in case something happens.”
The Woodmoor Shell gas station at 7001 Liberty Road is also celebrating the win. The Lottery retailer will get a $500 bonus for selling the winning $50,000 Pick 5 ticket.
