It was at the urging of a sibling that a Baltimore man decided to try his luck playing Powerball. Previously, he didn’t play the numbers at all, but his sister insisted, so the information technology professional bought five quick pick tickets and won $50,000.
He bought the tickets at the Harris Teeter grocery store at 1801 Whetstone Way in Baltimore and when he checked after the Nov. 26 drawing, he realized he had matched four of the first five numbers drawn plus the red Powerball on one of his games for a third-tier win.
But it took more urging by his sister before he checked. She called him the day after the drawing to make sure he reviewed his tickets. Completely oblivious to Lottery prize structure, he was otherwise unaware of the impending $50,000 prize fate brought his way.
The IT professional, who also enjoys tech-related activities in his spare time, says he plans to square his finances with his winnings.
