Baltimore Lottery Enthusiast Hits Pick 5 for $50,000

He’s focused on winning a multimillion-dollar jackpot

A Baltimore man who plays Maryland Lottery games every day won $50,000 playing Pick 5 and, although that’s the game’s top prize, told Lottery officials he won’t be excited until he wins “the big one.”

By big, he means a jackpot of $300 million or more on either Powerball or Mega Millions.

“I only play when it’s over $300 million. I can’t use anything less than that. I like to take care of people,” the winner said after claiming his Pick 5 prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

“This is not the big one,” he observed. “It’ll help pay off my truck.”

In his time playing various Lottery games, the jackpot chaser has won numerous smaller prizes. This $50,000 win beats out his previous personal best of $15,000.

As he continues in pursuit of “the big one,” the coming days provide opportunities for major jackpot wins in Powerball and Mega Millions. The games have estimated jackpot annuities of $457 million for tonight’s Mega Millions drawing and $306 million for the Saturday, Feb. 17 Powerball drawing.

The Baltimore winner’s Pick 5 ticket hailed from Pop’s Liquors and Grocery at 2320 Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore. The Baltimore County business receives a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, from the Lottery for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
