Baltimore Man Plays Mother’s Birth Date, Wins $50,000 Pick 5 Prize

Plans to use windfall to complete home renovations

Playing family members’ birth dates in Maryland Lottery games is a common practice that paid off this month for yet another lucky player. A Baltimore man won $50,000 by playing his mom’s birthday numbers in a Pick 5 game.

The 64-year-old said he found out about his win by scanning his ticket using the Lottery app. After the discovery, he ran downstairs to tell his wife about his big win. The astonished spouse, who joined him in the Lottery Winner’s Circle, said that she felt numb. When she asked him how much money he’d won, she wasn’t expecting him to say $50,000.

“I still didn’t believe it,” she said.

Her husband, who works at the Port of Baltimore, said he plays Lottery games every week. He enjoys playing Pick 3, Pick 4, Mega Millions and Powerball.

On March 13, he placed a $1 straight bet for the midday and evening drawings of March 13-19 at Boost Mobile in Baltimore. His numbers of 8, 1, 3, 3 and 3 won in the March 13 evening drawing.

The lucky player, who is also a huge sports fan, said that he has already told his co-workers about his win. In terms of spending their prize, the couple has big plans. “I want my kitchen done,” said the wife, and they added that the basement and living room are on the renovation list, too. They hope to complete all of their home improvement projects within the next year.

Boost Mobile located at 5401 Belair Road in Baltimore City also has a reason to celebrate the lucky ticket’s sale. The retailer will receive a bonus of $500 from the Lottery for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
