Baltimore Man Triples Third-Tier Mega Millions Prize to $30,000

Added Megaplier to ticket in Jan. 26 drawing

A retired contractor from Baltimore assembled a combination of numbers from his children’s birthdays to fill five lines of a Mega Millions ticket. He then added the Megaplier option to the ticket in the Jan. 26 drawing and left the Randallstown Lottery retailer.

The result: a $10,000 third-tier prize and then the 3X Megaplier tripled his win to $30,000. “I couldn’t believe it. I had to look at it twice,” said the loyal jackpot player.

The delighted dad said he plans to put his new fortune in the bank. The Lottery fan plays Multi-Match, Powerball and Mega Millions because of the high jackpots. “The money draws me to those games,” he said with a smile.

There are multiple drawings a week for those games and he always customizes his numbers for each drawing. The winner plays a combination of his children’s birthdays and moves those numbers around, but never plays the same digits. The antiques collector said he also likes to invest an extra dollar and add Megaplier to tickets because a $2 prize can turn into a $10 win. “The Megaplier is worth it. I always want to win that extra money,” he said.

The happy father bought the winning ticket in Baltimore County at Elite Wine & Spirits, located at 8718 Liberty Plaza in Randallstown.
