Baltimore Man Wins $50K on Powerball Double Play

A Baltimore man was rewarded for doubling his chances when he won $50,000 on a Powerball Double Play ticket.

According to the winner, he likes to add the Double Play option on his Powerball tickets for only $1 extra. “If you are going to play, you should give yourself a second chance to win,” he said.

The medical worker said his numbers are based on family birth dates and times. He visited mdlolttery.com to check out the winning numbers for the May 21 Powerball drawing and saw he only had one number and the Powerball, but it was too early for the Double Play drawing which is a second drawing that occurs 30 minutes after each Powerball drawing. He waited around and discovered he had much better luck with that drawing.

“I looked at the numbers and then said ‘wait a minute’ I think I have a match,” he said.

The loyal player didn’t have a perfect match for the top prize of $10 million but had four out of five numbers and the Powerball for a third-tier prize of $50,000, The winning Double Play numbers from that drawing were 4, 9, 21, 37 and 56; the Powerball was 2. Our winner had 39 instead of 56.

The Baltimore City resident plans to use his prize to pay off bills. He purchased his winning ticket at the Horseshoe Casino at 1525 Russell Street in Baltimore.

The jackpot for the next drawing Powerball drawing on Saturday, May 24 is set at an estimated $163 million annuity and an estimated cash option of $73.3 million.
