A Baltimore man received a jaw dropping surprise after more than a decade of playing the Maryland Lottery: a $50,000 Powerball prize.
Powerball is the winner’s favorite Lottery game, although he also enjoys playing Mega Millions and Bonus Match 5 as well. His persistence paid off with a healthy third-tier prize, which he collected Aug. 14 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The winner discovered his fortune while hanging out at a bar with a few friends. He scanned his Powerball ticket and was confused when the ticket displayed the message, “See retailer.”
Assuming there was an issue with the ticket, he returned to the store where he purchased it, Max Liquors at 736 Frederick Road in Catonsville, and asked the cashier to scan it.
That’s when he learned what was going on.
“I was shocked, jaw almost on the floor, but I played it cool,” the winner said after claiming the prize.
Since discovering his big win, the winner has kept the news mostly between himself, family and a few friends. He hasn’t had a big celebration yet, but he has already given some thought to what he will do with his windfall. Some will pay down debt and some will go into savings.
As for his Lottery-playing days, he has no plans to stop. He was already looking ahead to his next chance at a big win, purchasing a handful of Lottery tickets before visiting Lottery headquarters to claim his prize.
