The Powerball jackpot is back down from the stratospheric range at $68 million after a $1.04 billion win last week in Illinois. But as the big prize is starting to build again, Maryland had a $50,000 third-tier winner in the Aug. 19 drawing on a ticket sold in Waldorf.
Missing the big money by one number, the player in Charles County matched four of the first five numbers drawn plus the Powerball for the win. The $50,000 ticket was sold at Korner Liquors at 3120 Old Washington Road in Waldorf.
The winning numbers for the Aug. 19 drawing were: 10-21-58-61-64; and the Powerball 17.
Powerball has nine different prize levels, including the jackpot for matching all numbers drawn, and a second-tier prize of $1 million for matching all of the first five numbers, but not the Powerball. In addition to the $50,000 third-tier prize hit in Waldorf, Maryland saw a total of 9,098 other wins ranging from $4 to $100 in the Aug. 19 drawing.
Maryland Lottery winners have 182 days from the drawing date to claim their prizes. Winning tickets for the Aug. 19 drawing expire on Feb. 17, 2027.
Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights with a jackpot that starts at $20 million and grows after each drawing in which the jackpot is not won. The next drawing is Saturday, Aug. 22 when the estimated annuity value of the jackpot will be $68 million with a one-time payment option of $29.5 million.
Tickets are $2 and are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom. Five winning numbers are drawn from a range of 1 to 69, along with one winning Powerball number from a range of 1 to 26.
