Baltimore resident Darryl Mason celebrates his $25,000 Pick 5 win.

Lucky numbers help him take home top prize on $.50 wager

Darryl Mason is still trying to take in the fact that his Pick 5 ticket from the Jan. 6 evening drawing made him $25,000 richer. The Baltimore man came to Lottery headquarters to claim his prize with a big smile on his face.

“I had tears in my eyes when I realized I won,” said the 56-year-old. “I then put my ticket in a safe until I came to claim it today.”

Darryl, who works at a pizza carryout business, is a fan of a variety of Maryland Lottery games. Although he has won other prizes in the past, this is his largest to date. The winner plans to share some of his windfall with his family, including his seven-year-old son.

He bought the winning ticket at Damanigas, doing business as a gas station, located at 7101 Reisterstown Road in Baltimore City. For selling the winning Pick 5 ticket, the lucky retailer will receive a $250 bonus from the Lottery.
