Baltimore Woman Wins $50,000 Top Prize on Gifted Scratch-Off

Elona Logan, left, is all smiles after her daughter, at her side, gave her a Lottery ticket that ended up being a $50,000 winner.

A Baltimore City woman received more than just a thoughtful surprise when her daughter gave her a pair of Maryland Lottery scratch-offs. One of the tickets turned out to a $50,000 top prize winner!

Elona Logan said March 5, while claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, her daughter purchased two $5 20X the Cash tickets at the US Fuel station at 6100 Moravia Park Drive in Baltimore, and brought them home as a gift.

The mother and daughter are both regular Lottery players. Elona said she typically plays draw games such as Pick 3, while her daughter prefers scratch-offs.

After striking out on the first ticket, Elona moved on to the second and quickly realized something unusual was at play. She handed the ticket to her daughter, who confirmed the exciting news.

“I was like, ‘Wow, $50,000!’” her daughter said.

Elona said she had trouble believing what she was seeing.

“This can’t be real,” she recalled thinking.

The retired social worker was accompanied by her daughter when she claimed the prize, her largest ever.

Elona said she plans to use the money to square her finances and may set aside some for a family gathering.

“I’ll take them out to dinner,” she said.

With lots of optimism Elona also offered advice for other players.

“Just keep playing,” she said. “A $5 ticket brought $50,000. You never know.”

US Fuel will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.

Launched in January, 20X the Cash had seven $50,000 top prizes, three of which remain unclaimed.
