Baltimore’s ‘About Time’ Claims $50,000 Prize in Her Own Time

A Baltimore grandmother, “About Time” found her big win on Super Bowl Sunday.

Pick 5 player won $50,000 prize on $1 straight bet

Being patient and persistent can pay off. “About Time,” a 63-year-old retail employee from Baltimore, scored a Super Bowl worthy $50,000 win playing Pick 5 on the night of the big game. The lucky lady didn’t claim her prize from the Feb. 13 drawing until July 28, when she decided it was “about time” to do so.

The story of her quick-pick win began when “About Time” tried to purchase a ticket where she works. Unfortunately, the self-serve Lottery vending machine was temporarily down. The happy grandmother is an occasional Pick 5 and scratch-off player. “I don’t play every day. I play once and a while but I like to play,” she added. Still wanting to buy a Pick 5 ticket, she patiently made her way to Shop Express in Brooklyn to purchase a $1 straight bet Pick 5 ticket for the evening drawing.

“About Time” discovered Lottery luck had come her way when she scanned the ticket using the Lottery app. Only a few close family members know she won. The lucky lady did tell her employer about having to buy the quick-pick ticket at another location. “I told them they should have had their machine running,” she said, laughing.  “About Time” plans to save the prize for her family.

Benefiting from her winning purchase was Shop Express, located at 714 Church Street in Brooklyn. The Anne Arundel County business receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
