Bingo Scratch-off Fan’s Loyalty Rewarded with $100,000 Win

Western Maryland man claims Bingo X10 game’s top prize

He’ll buy a Powerball or Mega Millions ticket once in a while when their jackpots get really big, a Washington County man told Lottery officials, but his real love are bingo-style scratch-off games. Lady Luck rewarded that loyalty with a $100,000 top-prize win on a $10 Bingo X10 scratch-off.

“I get one or two every week,” the 48-year-old construction worker reported. “I enjoy the time they take to play. It makes them feel more worthwhile, somehow.

A resident of a small town south of Hagerstown, the winner was grocery shopping in late October when the store’s Lottery vending machine caught his eye. “The machine in Weis Markets had a bingo game, so I bought a couple.”

The Western Maryland man scratched his $10 Bingo X10 instant tickets later at home. “I win often enough with bingo tickets to not be that surprised when it happens, but this was different.” He examined the scratch-off two or three times before calling out to his wife, “I think I hit the jackpot here.” The couple reports feeling stunned. “It was just unbelievable. We couldn’t believe it was real.”

Bingo X10 debuted last summer with seven $100,000 top prizes. This win is the game’s next-to-last top prize. There also are four $10,000 second-tier prizes available and others ranging from $10 to $1,000.

The Lottery will send Weis Markets #178 at 700 Chase Six Boulevard in Boonsboro a $1,000 bonus for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off. Our winner plans to use his $100,000 windfall to pay off debt and add to his savings. “We’ll put some of it aside to have a fun weekend or two, though,” he said.
