Grandad to ‘two wonderful grandbabies’ planning to save at least some of it
Born on Sept. 27, a Maryland Lottery player from Baltimore decided to play 09270 as his Pick 5 combination as his birthday drew near. On Sept. 25, the tactic paid $25,000 on a 50-cent bet.
A regular player who sticks with the Pick 4 and Pick 5 games, he said he refrains from watching the live drawings.
“I wouldn’t watch live because it would give me a heart attack,” he said on Sept. 26 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. It was the eve of his 59th birthday. Although excited about the win, his plans for his prize are to put the bulk of it into savings.
“I come from a family where it’s always, ‘Save!’” he said. That, however, will be tempered by other considerations. “My lovely wife,” he said, “will help with the spending.” Also, a celebration with his “two wonderful grandbabies” was in the cards, with the celebration including “whatever they want!”
After that, he’ll keep playing the numbers games because he enjoys the thrill.
Sharing in the fun of the win is North Point Liquors and Bar at 1108-10 North Point Road in Dundalk. The Baltimore County retailer scores a bonus of $250 for selling a $25,000 winning ticket.
