Bowie Player Collects $25,000 in Winnings on New Pick 5 Game

To date, 20 winning tickets at the $25,000 level have been sold

A Maryland Lottery player from Prince George’s County got lucky playing the new Pick 5 game, scoring a $25,000 win on a 50-cent straight bet in the Feb. 19 evening drawing.

The 73-year-old collected his winnings on Feb. 24 at Maryland Lottery headquarters with a little translation help from a relative.

The Bowie resident bought his hot ticket the afternoon of the drawing day and matched all five digits – 3, 0, 1, 7, 2 – in order for the hefty win. The store where he bought the ticket, Fairwood Wine & Spirits at 12420 Fairwood Parkway in Bowie, shares in his good fortune, picking up a $250 bonus, for the sale. The bonus from the Lottery is equal to 1 percent of the prize.

As of Feb. 27, Maryland Lottery players have purchased eight Pick 5 winning tickets at the $50,000 level, of which three have been claimed, as well as 21 winners at the $25,000 level, four of which have been claimed. A winning $1 straight bet pays $50,000 and a winning 50-cent straight bet pays $25,000 in Pick 5.

Pick 5 is the Maryland Lottery’s newest game, with the first drawing happening at midday on Feb. 7. Like Pick 3 and Pick 4, Pick 5 is a twice daily game with drawings taking place after the other two games.
