“Powerball Bulldog” of Anne Arundel County matched all winning numbers besides the Powerball and took home a $1 million prize.
An Anne Arundel County man learned there was a $1 million Powerball winner from an Odenton store, but it took some time for him to realize that he was that winner.
The Bowie State University graduate, who is using the alias “Powerball Bulldog” after his school mascot, said his fun began when he received a text from his mother. She knew that her son played the Lottery and sent information and a photo from the store in Odenton that sold a $1 million winning Powerball ticket.
“Powerball Bulldog” said he often goes to the Anne Arundel County store, but enters from the left side of the store. The photo used from the location was taken from the right side of the building. He didn’t recognize the store and disqualified himself as a possible winner.
“I told her, ‘It’s not me’,” the technician said.
According to the winner, he checked his tickets a few days later for the July 28 drawing and received a “Go to Lottery” message after scanning. He went to a retailer to find out the exact amount and was shocked to learn that he was now a millionaire.
He matched all five of the first numbers drawn, but missed the Powerball for a second-tier prize of $1 million. He was the lucky winner from the Odenton store after all.
“I was ecstatic. I am that person who won,” the big winner said with a smile. He plans to use some of his prize to pay bills.
The Royal Farms at 1558 Annapolis Road in Odenton receives a $2,500 bonus for selling the ticket.
Powerball fever is in the air as tonight’s Powerball jackpot is at an estimated annuity value of $905 million, and a one-time cash option of $391.1 million.
