Brandywine Player Wins Two Pick 5 Prizes in One Drawing

A military veteran who enjoys the Maryland Lottery Pick games had an excellent week as he was among many winners in the April 9 evening Pick 5 drawing when the combination 10110 hit. Not only did the Prince George’s man take home a $50,000 top prize thanks to a $1 bet, he also played a 50-cent bet and won another $25,000.

The big winner plays the Pick games weekly, and for this win he had purchased tickets for the drawings April 6 – 11. He credits his mother for showing him the ropes of a weekly routine.

“She had a system with numbers and I guess I picked it up from her,” he said April 13 when he claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

A few days had passed since he made his purchase and he decided to check his tickets for winnings thus far. As he sat in his car checking the winning numbers on his phone, he came across a very familiar combination, 10110, which had been drawn.

“I saw that Pick 5 number and I knew I was a winner,” he told Lottery officials.

The player said it was divine intervention.

“I’m a praying man and I asked for this blessing,” he shared. “I said, ‘Lord, I could use something extra.’”

And a blessing he received indeed. When he cashed out the $50,000 prize at Lottery headquarters, he reported he had already cashed out the $25,000 winner at a casino. Casinos can cash winning Maryland Lottery tickets worth up to $25,000.

When speaking with Lottery officials he said he plans to use the winnings to pay down some debt and will also make some needed repairs on his car.

The $50,000-winning ticket was purchased from Dyson’s Store at 13706 Brandywine Road in Brandywine. The Prince George’s County retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The week ending April 12 was a fortunate week for Pick 5 players, in addition to the numerous $50,000 wins, there were 25 wins at the $25,000 level.
