“Lucky Ladies,” a mother and daughter Lottery playing team from Brooklyn Park, celebrate a $50,000 Pick 5 win July 18 at Lottery headquarters.
A Brooklyn Park woman and her daughter waited a few days to check their Pick 5 tickets, but it was well worth the wait as they discovered they were $50,000 top prize winners.
The Anne Arundel County mom and daughter make quite the team, with mom purchasing the tickets and her daughter checking the results. They called themselves “Lucky Ladies” for purposes of telling their winning story after claiming July 18 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The hot ticket was purchased on July 7, a Monday, but the win was not discovered until three days later on that Thursday. Since a $1 straight bet was purchased and matched, the ticket was worth $50,000.
“We couldn’t believe it,” the daughter said.
The mom said she likes to select numbers herself based on whim, and switches she out when she has no luck on a set she has been playing. The big win came after a recent change to the combination 5-3-8-4-7 for the July 7 midday drawing.
“That was the first time I played that number,” she said.
According to the big winner, she got the idea for her winning number from a store receipt. As of July 18 when she claimed the prize, she remained undecided as to how to spend the money.
“I’m going to need more time to think about it,” she said.
The winning ticket was purchased at Denton Liquors at 38 Denton Plaza in Caroline County, which receives a $500 bonus.
