The idea that “two for one is just more fun” really rang true for a Calvert County woman. She purchased a $5 FAST PLAY ticket on May 5 that led to a $50,000 win on the Bonus Match 5 game the next day.
She and her husband were out for food and drinks at Anthony’s Bar and Grill in Dunkirk when, as they normally do, they decided to play some Lottery games to add on to the fun. The couple played Keno, Racetrax, scratch-offs and FAST PLAY games.
Meanwhile, as part of a special promotion that runs through May 24, players receive a free $2 Bonus Match 5 ticket with every $5 Lightning Cash FAST PLAY game bought. The Dunkirk player, not knowing about the promotion, was surprised to get one of those free Bonus Match 5 tickets.
The federal government employee put the Bonus Match 5 ticket aside and continued with her festive night out with her husband. She checked the ticket after the May 6 drawing using the Lottery’s App on her phone and was shocked by the message she saw. It said that she was a winner and needed to go to Lottery headquarters.
“It didn’t say how much and I didn’t want to get too excited,” said the winner. “So, I Googled the winning numbers and checked the prize and it said $50,000.” Still, she was in disbelief.
“It’s pretty amazing that I won that much money from a free ticket,” smiled the winner.
“We are cautiously optimistic,” the winner’s husband said. He accompanied her when she claimed the prize in Baltimore May 7. “It will feel real when the check comes.”
And when that happens, the Calvert County winner said, she’ll put the winnings in the bank and may purchase some new appliances.
The Lottery retailer where she received the Bonus Match 5 ticket is also a winner. Anthony’s Bar and Grill at 10371 Southern Maryland Boulevard in Dunkirk receives a $500 bonus.
