Caroline County Trucker Hauls in Pick 5 Top Prize

Family man wins $50,000 while doing Saturday chores

A big fan of the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 3/4/5 games was running errands when he decided to play $1 straight on Pick 5 last weekend. The lucky Caroline County resident took home a $50,000 prize in the May 4 midday drawing.

The winner had stopped at Greensboro Tiger Mart, which is not his regular spot, to get his games. He purchased only two Pick 5 games for the midday and evening drawings based on numbers he chose himself.

“I normally buy all my games from another location and always from the cashier,” said the loyal player. “But here, I went to the vending machine.”

It’s a good thing that he did, because his Pick 5 ticket hit big. The father of two adult children said his good fortune was revealed when he checked the winning numbers using the Maryland Lottery mobile app.

“I sat there looking at the numbers and I couldn’t breathe,” he said. “I immediately called my wife.”

The family man, who owns a trucking company, said the majority of the winnings will go back into his business. He also told Lottery officials when he claimed the prize that the funds will enable him to take a vacation and also help his family financially.

Also celebrating is the lucky retailer that sold the winning Pick 5 ticket. Greensboro Tiger Mart, located at 13301 Greensboro Road in Caroline County, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
