Carroll County Best Friends Focus on Family with $100,000 Lottery Win

Two longtime best friends have been thankful for their many Lottery wins over the years, but a $100,000 Silver Bell Bucks scratch-off win left half of the team breathless.

The Carroll County duo have a system, they reported Dec. 3 when they claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

“She plays. I go in and get them,” one said.

The one who plays was scratching the $10 ticket and matched the numbers 03, 19 and 48 in the play area and the winning numbers area. Each of those numbers had $10,000 under it.

“I couldn’t even talk when I saw the first three $10,000 prizes,” she said, adding, “Then I just kept scratching and they just kept coming!”

Ultimately, she would reveal 10 places on the ticket with $10,000 that had matching figures in both the play area and the winning numbers area, bringing their total win to the ticket’s top prize of $100,000.

“I thank the man upstairs!” she said.

The two said they have had plenty of success playing the Lottery over the years, but most wins have been much smaller. Previously, their personal best was “a thousand and something.”

The two plan to spend the winnings to help out their extended family, including some nieces and nephews.

One niece who drove them to Lottery headquarters said she knows how some of the money will be spent: “They’ll be playing more Lottery!”

One of the winning pair confirmed this, saying she expected to stop and buy a few tickets on their way home.

The winning ticket was purchased at Piper’s Wine & Spirit Barn at 4127 Hanover Pike in Manchester. The store receives a bonus of $1,000, equal to 1% of the prize total, for selling the top-tier winner.
