A “once in a blue moon” player visited Lottery headquarters in Baltimore Oct. 17 to collect what she described as the biggest prize she’s ever won. While she has no plans for the $50,000 top prize she uncovered scratching a ticket simply named “$” back in August, she says the excitement of that moment remains as fresh in her mind as if it happened yesterday.
“I really didn’t plan to buy a ticket on that day,” the Westminster resident said. “I saw the jackpot sign across the parking lot and that’s all it took. I just decided.”
It was a sign at Sam’s Wine & Spirits that caught her eye, and it was there that she made her scratch-off selection.
“When I play scratch tickets, I always look for the game with the fewest tickets. There were only a few ‘$’ tickets left, so that’s what I chose.”
The wife and mother scratched her ticket and almost immediately saw the match that delivered the $50,000 win.
“It was a real shock. Goose bumps all up and down my arms,” she said.
“$,” her new favorite Lottery game, arrived on retailers’ shelves in December 2023. Of its original eight top prizes, one now remains unclaimed, along with two $5,000 second-tier and seven $1,000 third-tier prizes.
Sam’s Wine and Spirits is at 11130 Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills. The Baltimore County business receives a $500 bonus for selling the top prize winner.
