Columbia Nurse Claims $50,000 Prize in her Favorite Game

‘Roxie’ wins Pick 5 top prize

A Howard County Pick 5 fan named “Roxie” started her week off richer and happier than she can remember being in “a long time.” The nurse won what she considers a small fortune, a top prize of $50,000, in the March 26 midday drawing.

The lucky score is her biggest prize to date, far larger than the $20,000 she won on a Pick 5 game three years ago. On March 26, while on her way to work, “Roxie” stopped at Cradlerock Food Mart in Columbia and bought a Pick 5 ticket. She placed a $1 straight bet using a family birthday for her lucky numbers.

Days later, “Roxie” realized she had forgotten to check the ticket for a win. While on her break at work, the Columbia resident visited the Lottery website and saw, to her surprise, her numbers matched the winning numbers.

“I was in disbelief, I wanted to yell and celebrate but I couldn’t at work and I didn’t want anyone to know,” she said.

Asked how “Roxie” plans to spend her new fortune, she replied, “I’d like to be smart with it, I see it as a blessing, so I want to make the best of it.” She plans to buy an investment property in Baltimore to create a new income for her family.

“Roxie” is not alone in winning. Her retailer, Cradlerock Food Mart located at 6810 Cradlerock Way in Columbia, will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
