Return to college planned for $100,000 Crossword scratch-off winner
An out-of-state driver stopped at Royal Farms in Easton for a fill up, snacks and juice before making her two-hour drive home to Delaware. The anonymous player is lucky she listened to her son and added scratch-offs to her purchase. Now, she is celebrating a $100,000 top-prize win on the 7th edition of the $100,000 Crossword game.
The Sussex County, Delaware resident said she enjoys playing a variety of Lottery games every now and then. Her son is a passionate crossword puzzle player. While at Royal Farms #421, her son noticed the crossword-themed scratch-offs on display in the Lottery vending machine and encouraged his mom to make a purchase. She bought two of the $10 scratch-offs and they headed to her car.
She then took a few minutes to play the Lottery games before starting the long drive. The first instant ticket was a non-winner but the second one sparked a lot of emotion.
“I started scratching and started to see the words match,” she told Lottery officials after claiming the prize. “I realized we just won $100,000! I won’t believe it’s real until the money is in my hand.”
Filled with excitement and overwhelming emotions, the winner recalls shedding tears of joy as she showed the scratch-off to her son. He quickly shared her happiness. Never having won more than a few hundred dollars, the winner considers this $100,000 prize “a blessing.”
Asked what she plans to do with her windfall, the lucky lady said she will go back to school to earn a master’s degree in childhood education.
Royal Farms #421 also shares in the fun. The Talbot County store located at 8480 Ocean Gateway in Easton will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The $100,000 Crossword game went on sale in August and this winner claimed the fourth of its eight top prizes. The game is still packed with other prizes, including 10 $10,000 prizes and others ranging from $10 to $1,000.
