Silver Spring woman takes home progressive jackpot
A Montgomery County woman was all smiles as she reeled in a $31,714 prize on a FAST PLAY Gold Fish® ticket.
The anonymous player, who is using the nickname “Disco” for Lottery publicity, said that her winning story began at Giant #192 in Gaithersburg. She bought the $2 ticket there on Wednesday, July 19 and took it outside to her car to check for a win.
“Disco” explained that she scanned the ticket through the Lottery app on her smartphone and got the message to “Go to Lottery.” She was curious to find out how much she won so the Silver Spring resident took an old-school approach and looked closely at the game. Gold Fish has a progressive jackpot that starts at $2,500 and grows with each sale until a winning ticket is sold. What she saw brought a smile to her face.
“I saw that I had three turtles under the progressive jackpot line. I knew that I had won,” she said. “Disco” immediately phoned her mom to tell her the great news.
The 34-year-old said she is a loyal player of scratch-offs and FAST PLAY games. “I have been playing for a long time,” she said. “I felt like it was my time.”
Her Gold Fish ticket purchase wasn’t planned. This particular trip to the store was specifically to buy rice, “Disco” said. When she walked by the Lottery vending machine, however, she decided to play.
“Something told me to buy a ticket. I went with my gut,” explained “Disco.”
The educator said she is undecided on how to use the money, but will probably buy a new car and place the rest of the prize into her savings account.
Her lucky Lottery retailer also benefits from her big win. Giant #192 at 18250 Flower Hill Way in Montgomery County will receive a 1% bonus of $317.13 from the Lottery for selling the $31,713 winning ticket.
The FAST PLAY game began on Sept. 5, 2022 and “Disco” is the fifth of 20 progressive jackpot winners. There are still plenty of winning Gold Fish tickets left with prizes ranging from $2 to $1,000 as well as the jackpot.
