District of Columbia Player Crosses the Line to Win $50,000 in Maryland

Powerball provides her biggest Lottery win to date

She lives in Washington, D.C., but prefers to buy her lottery tickets in Maryland, the lucky player said. And while she’s won over the years, none of her previous prizes came close to her $50,000 Powerball win on the May 10 drawing.

No one has matched all six numbers in Powerball since April, so the jackpot has continued to grow and has the player from D.C. looking forward to hitting for the full amount.

“That’s coming,” she said on May 16 when she claimed her $50,000 third-tier prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore with her husband by her side. “There’s more to come.”

As for her preference for buying Maryland Lottery tickets, she says it’s a matter of convenience. Her best previous win on the Maryland side was many years ago when she hit for $1,356. On the District of Columbia side, she once hit for $2,500.

The happy winner says her windfall will go into savings, although she’ll probably do something nice for herself as well. Asked if she would continue playing, she said, “Of course!” adding, “When I don’t win, I don’t feel bad because I know the money is going to good causes.”

She bought her hot $2 quick-pick ticket at Eastern Avenue BP gas station at 4501 Eastern Avenue in Mt. Rainier.
