A half-million-dollar Lottery win would be a figurative dream come true for anyone, but for one of two Western Maryland brothers, an actual dream revealed the winning Pick 5 numbers for the Oct. 29 midday drawing.
“I dreamed and we both played. That was a good dream,” the younger brother, a resident of Hagerstown, said Oct. 31 when the two claimed $250,000 each on $10 worth of Pick 5 straight bet tickets.
The winning number, 13605, has no meaning for either brother, aside from having a prominent spot in the dream. After the dream, the younger brother conferred with his older sibling, a resident of Frederick, and the two decided to play big. The Hagerstown brother picked up the 10 tickets shortly before noon on the day of the drawing at the Liberty gas station at 23300 Clarksburg Road in Clarksburg.
And then those numbers were drawn within the hour and gave the brothers a total win of $500,000.
Decades ago when he was 18 or 19, the younger brother recalls talking to a cousin who asked him if he ever played the Lottery. He did not at the time. The cousin then informed him, “Your license plate comes out all the time.” The younger brother promptly played the three numeric digits on his plate, 149, and won a Pick 3 prize. He’s been playing ever since, mainly the Pick games, but also Racetrax and a little bit of Keno.
Asked about plans for the winnings, the older brother offered, “I have no idea.” The winnings will be going into savings. One brother is retired, the other semi-retired, but soon to be fully retired.
“I’m just going to kick back and enjoy life!”
The Liberty gas station receives a bonus of $5,000 for selling the top-tier winning tickets.
