Dundalk Man Follows Intuition to $50,000 Scratch-off Win

A $50,000 scratch-off prize is going toward a bathroom remodel for Allen Lindemon of Dundalk.

Takes home a top prize on Lucky Riches game

Allen Lindemon of Dundalk and his dog were out in the backyard on Sunday when a little cloud came into view. Its shape caught his eye, because it looked like the angel that appears on the headstone for his sister, who died last summer.

Allen usually buys Powerball tickets when the jackpot is high and found himself on Monday at Quick Mart #8 in Dundalk, ready to try his luck. Then, he remembered the cloud and wondered if it was a sign from his late sister to do something different. “I never pick up scratch-offs,” Allen said, adding, “I was thinking my sister is telling me to go to the store and get scratch-offs.”

The Baltimore County resident then saw a $5 Lucky Riches scratch-off in the Lottery vending machine. He took two of the Lucky Riches instant tickets home and offered one to his wife. She had a non-winner while Allen quickly discovered he won the game’s $50,000 top prize.

“I said, ‘Oh my God’ and turned it around and showed it to my wife,” recalled the happy husband. The two celebrated and have shared the news with family members and friends. They plan to put the prize toward a bathroom remodel.

The experience left Allen wide awake on Monday night after his big win. The lucky scratch-off was tucked away in a safe and yet, he said, “I couldn’t sleep that night.” Allen works at the Port of Baltimore and took the day off on Friday to claim his prize. “I never in the world won this much money,” he said.

His purchase at Quick Mart #8 also made the Lottery retailer a winner. The Baltimore County business located at 106 Wise Avenue in Dundalk earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The game still has two $50,000 top prizes remaining along with more than 175,500 unclaimed prizes ranging from $5,000 to $5.
