Lanham Chef Cooks Up a Big Lottery Win

Lucky player claims $50,000 Powerball prize

A lucky Lanham woman who plays Lottery games several times a week uses the same numbers every time she plays Powerball. Having never won a significant prize, she was beyond surprised when she realized a $50,000 fortune had come her way.

The 55-year-old chef had visited her usual place to play Lottery games, New Grand Mart located at 1535 University Boulevard East in Hyattsville. She bought $20 worth of Powerball tickets on Monday night, March 11. The very next morning, she checked her tickets and learned that she’d matched four numbers for a $50,000 payout.

The lucky winner has worked as a chef for 25 years. She plans to use her prize to pay bills. She won one of nine $50,000 third-tier and Double Play prizes scored by Marylanders this year.

No one has hit the Powerball jackpot since Jan. 1, when a ticket sold in Michigan won the $842.4 million jackpot. The estimated jackpot annuity for the Saturday, March 16 drawing is $600 million with an estimated cash option of $293.4 million.
