A truck driver from Elkridge who often begins and ends his driving day with the purchase of a scratch-off got a pleasant surprise when he bought a $5 JURASSIC PARK ticket: a $50,000 top prize.
“I pinched myself and asked, ‘Am I dreaming?” he said Oct. 8 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Overwhelmed, he added: “It’s one of the greatest days in my life!”
If he has a few dollars in his pocket, he’ll often buy a ticket or two at the beginning of his run. The 7-Eleven store at 125 Hanover Pike in Hampstead is near his last stop and he sometimes picks up a ticket there. On this occasion, it was a purchase in Hampstead that put a T. rex-sized prize in his pocket. The 7-Eleven store receives a bonus of $500.
The timing of the win is fortuitous, as the winner’s wife is in the midst of starting a business. The windfall will come in handy for buying materials and inventory.
While welcome, the win won’t change much about the winner’s daily life.
“I’m going to go back to work every day and not be behind on my bills. That’s it,” he said. He also said he will continue playing Lottery games, pretty much same as now.
“I’m not going to go crazy just because I won,” he said. Mainly he’ll continue being pleased with the occasional winner of $50 to $100, all the while hoping for something even bigger.
The JURASSIC PARK ticket went on sale Sept. 19 with six prizes at the top-tier $50,000 level. The Elkridge player’s win is the second of those to be won, leaving four others unclaimed.
Non-winning JURASSIC PARK scratch-offs can be entered in a second-chance promotion through the Maryland Lottery’s My Lottery Rewards program for a chance to win a six-day, five-night trip to Oahu, Hawaii. While in Hawaii, each trip winner, alongside winners from all of the other participating lotteries will get a chance to play the $1,000,000 JACKPOT CHALLENGE for a chance to win up to $1 MILLION!
