Ellicott City Woman Discovers Scratch-off Win during Shopping Trip

Howard County resident claims $30,000 prize in Diamond Bingo game

An Ellicott City woman bagged a $30,000 top prize on the green Diamond Bingo instant ticket during a family shopping trip.

She had purchased a stack of scratch-offs a few days earlier and left them in her vehicle glove box. While her daughter and granddaughter went into the store to shop, the loyal Lottery player sat in her car, waiting, and started to scratch off the games to kill time. At first, she thought she won $3,000.

“When they came back to the car, they saw this shocked looked on my face and wanted to know if everything was okay,” she said. Not only was everything okay, it was about to get even better.

The Howard County resident took the winning instant ticket to a Lottery retailer to confirm her $3,000 prize and learned she actually won $30,000.

“I read the line wrong. I didn’t see the ‘X’ that took it up to $30,000,” she said with a huge smile.

The lucky winner works at a community college and likes to spend time with her grandkids. She explained that the money will help her move into a new home.

The 45-year-old has been a loyal scratch-off player since she turned 18 and added that her mom was also a scratch-off fan. The lucky lady reports being very glad to win a top prize.

“It is true. You have to play to win. I knew my day was coming where I was going to win,” she said.

Inglewood Carroll Fuel at 620 Edmondson Avenue is also glad she won. The Catonsville Lottery retailer will receive a $300 bonus from the Lottery for selling our winner the lucky instant ticket.

The $3 Diamond Bingo game went on sale in June. These was the second top-prize winner discovered out of seven $30,000 top prizes. There are 98 $1,000 second-tier prizes still available and other prizes ranging from $3 to $500.
