Montgomery County woman takes home top prize
A Rockville woman recently found herself in the Winner’s Circle at Lottery headquarters, claiming a $50,000 MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off prize.
The winner has been playing the Lottery since moving to Maryland a few years ago. Over the years, she’s found enjoyment in selecting tickets based on the number on the case where they are displayed at the Lottery retailer, particularly drawn to 4, 7, and 13, which she considers her lucky numbers.
Her latest purchase turned that luck into a life-changing prize. On the day she won, she decided to take a walk to her local Giant Food store at 9719 Traville Gateway Drive in Rockville to get some exercise. While at the store, she picked up a MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off and scratched it on the spot.
“I scanned it and knew I won something, but I wasn’t sure how much,” she recalled. “When I scanned it again and saw $50,000, my heart was racing — I really couldn’t believe my eyes!”
Overjoyed, she hurried home to share the incredible news with her children. Her daughter, initially skeptical and suspecting a prank, rushed over to confirm the win. A quick scan using the Maryland Lottery app confirmed the prize. No trick, just a dream come true.
When asked about her plans for her windfall, she shared her practical mindset. “I never thought I’d have this much money at my disposal, so the smartest thing is to save it,” she said.
The Giant Food store that sold the winning ticket will also receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for their role in selling a $50,000 scratch-off top prize.
The MONOPOLY X20 instant ticket, from the Maryland Lottery and licensed by Scientific Games, LLC., is a member of a family of MONOPOLY scratch-offs and went on sale Jan. 13. There are four $50,000 top-prizes remaining, along with others ranging from $5 to $5,000. This game is also part of a MONOPOLY Second-Chance Promotion. Players can enter any non-winning MONOPOLY scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards for a chance to win a rolling cash jackpot or cash prize. Six monthly drawings from February to July will award $5,000 prizes and rolling cash jackpots that start at $10,000 and grow until the drawing date.
