Family Birthdays Are Key for Baltimore Man’s Lottery Winnings

USMC veteran wins $50,000 Bonus Match 5 top prize

He prides himself on remembering just about all the birthdays of his large extended family, a retired federal employee told Lottery officials this week. One way he keeps them fresh in his mind is to use the dates as Lottery numbers. He wouldn’t tell us which relatives’ digits produced the combination responsible for his $50,000 Bonus Match 5 win on March 3, but he intends to reward them for the inspiration.

“I’ve been playing for a long time, but it wasn’t until I started using the birthdays that I started winning,” the city resident told us. “But nothing like this,” he quickly added.

The Marine Corps veteran was up late that lucky Monday and, before turning in, decided to check the Bonus Match 5 results on his Lottery app. “I recognized the five numbers right away, but didn’t believe it.” Checking his ticket, he clearly saw that all of his numbers were there. “I just kept checking the results and the ticket. I thought to myself, ‘How can this be possible.’”

The $6 Bonus Match 5 ticket – good for three drawings – was purchased from Greenspring Shell at 2859 Smith Avenue in Baltimore County. The gas station received a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winner.

Our winner will take care of bills with his prize and then share with his family – especially that one special member. “It’s still hard to believe that this happened.”
