District Heights woman takes home $50,000 prize

A District Heights woman was shopping with her sister when she purchased a Let’s Make a Deal ticket and scratched her way to the first $50,000 top prize on the game.

Last Sunday, the Prince George’s County resident stopped at Tony’s Liquors in Laurel to grab a few Lottery tickets including a $5 Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off. She scratched the game at home revealing the $50,000 win.

“I saw that I matched the “8” to one of the winning numbers and thought, ‘this can’t be real’,” said the retired hospitality worker. “I gave it to my sister so she could check, too.”

“When I scanned the ticket on my phone, the message said she won $50,000,” said the winner’s sister.

After researching what to do next, the two sisters made their way to the Lottery’s Claim Center in Baltimore to claim the prize this week. The lucky lady said she plans to use her winnings towards home improvements.

The Lottery retailer who sold the winning ticket wins, too. For selling the $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Tony’s Liquors at 12637 Laurel – Bowie Road in Laurel, will receive a $500 Lottery bonus.

The Let’s Make a Deal scratch-off also offers a second-chance promotion. Players can enter non-winning Let’s Make a Deal scratch-offs into My Lottery Rewards through Sept. 8 for the chance to win $5,000 cash or a VIP trip to Hollywood. Five drawings will take place, each randomly selecting one trip winner and four $5,000 winners.

The five trip winners will win a four-day VIP trip for two to Los Angeles, CA to see a taping of the Let’s Make a Deal game show. In addition to round trip air transportation and hotel accommodations, each winner will receive $1,660 in spending money, a hosted tour of Los Angeles landmarks, and more. Winners will have the opportunity to visit a costume shop to purchase a costume to wear to the show, where they will “play along” with show contestants for that taping to win up to $3,000.
