It was seven years ago when Daryl Colter of Fort Washington claimed a $50,000 Bonus Match 5 prize. More recently, he tried his luck with $10 worth of Powerball quick pick tickets and, though he didn’t score that elusive jackpot prize, he did end up with $50,000 third-tier prize.
During the recent Powerball mania when the jackpot was at $1.7 billion, he received a phone call from a friend telling him to buy some tickets. He then made a stop at S&W Liquors at 7072 Allentown Road in Temple Hills. He told lottery officials he doesn’t bother selecting numbers, he relies on the quick pick random number generator instead.
Daryl was home in his basement when he checked his Powerball numbers. Disbelief set in as realized he had five matching numbers including the red Powerball (but missing one of the white balls). After checking his ticket several times over, it finally set in that he would be taking home his second $50,000 prize. He immediately shared the news with his family and friends.
In addition to being a two-time Maryland Lottery winner, he’s also a soon-to-be three-time retiree. He’s retired from the Marines and the Department of Defense and is set to retire from his current place of employment very soon.
Daryl is an avid sports fan, particularly of the Washington Commanders. When he’s not working or watching sports, he enjoys spending time with family.
