Frederick Racetrax Fan’s Lucky Win Leads to Vacation Plans

Retiree and family celebrating his $30,734 prize

He plays almost every day, a Frederick man told Lottery officials as they discussed the $30,734 Racetrax prize he was in Baltimore to claim. The prize – the biggest he’s ever won – is his family’s ticket to a group vacation in the near future.

Steven Bender bought his lucky Racetrax Trifecta ticket last Friday morning from Wegmans #54 in Frederick. “I noticed that the 10, 11 and 12 horses had been in the money in recent games, so I started playing them,” said the 74-year-old.

Later in the day, when checking his $20 ticket for a win using the Lottery app, Steven experienced the surprise of his (Lottery) life. His three horses finished in perfect order in the 10th of the 20 races.

“I called my wife over to see what I was looking at, to tell me if I was seeing things.” A Racetrax veteran herself, thanks to her husband’s frequent play, his wife quickly confirmed the $30,734 win. “We were pretty excited.”

The management at Wegmans #54 located at 7830 Wormens Mill Road in Frederick have reason to celebrate, too. They earned a $307.34 bonus from the Lottery for selling the winning ticket.
