A Frederick woman stopped for gas on her way to work and bought a $5 FAST PLAY ticket and ended up with an $83,201 progressive jackpot prize.
The player, who claimed the prize March 4 at Lottery headquarters, said the win came on the second FAST PLAY ticket she ever purchased. This win came on the game World Championship Poker, and her first FAST PLAY win, about two years ago, was not nearly as impressive, weighing in at $500.
She made the ticket purchase on March 2 when she stopped for gas at the Sheetz convenience store at 1300 E. Patrick Street in Frederick.
She scanned the ticket in the store and saw the message on the screen to “see Lottery.” Uncertain of what the message meant, she showed her husband and then they eventually made their way to another retailer to scan the ticket second time.
She was still unsure of just how big of a prize she would be claiming. It wasn’t certain until she was at Lottery headquarters, where it was confirmed that the prize amount is $83,201.
She told lottery officials that she had suspected she had won a big prize, but wanted to be sure before celebrating. Prize confirmation in hand, she can now celebrate.
The winner is semi-retired, working only a few days a week. She plans to share her winnings with family and take a beach vacation. The Sheetz store will receive a $832 bonus.
FAST PLAY World Championship Poker is a $5 game that has been on sale since Jan. 5, and this is the first progressive-jackpot-winning ticket sold. Seven progressive jackpots remain. There are also thousands of lower-tier prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
