Frederick Woman’s Favorite Way to Unwind Results in $57,777 Lottery Windfall

A Frederick County woman who has been playing the Maryland Lottery since its inception recently found herself visiting Lottery headquarters alongside her husband to claim a $57,777 prize on the Triple Red 7s Tripler scratch-off.

Though she’s been playing for years, she said she doesn’t have a favorite game. Instead, the experience of playing with her husband is what keeps her coming back.

“Playing the Lottery is our way to unwind,” she said June 22 when she claimed her winnings.

For years, the couple has shared a simple evening routine. After work they enjoy dinner and watching the evening news together, then they sit down to scratch their Lottery tickets. For the Frederick couple, Lottery games have always been about more than the possibility of winning. The nightly tradition has become a source of relaxation, entertainment and quality time together.

Recently, her husband picked up $20 worth of scratch-offs for the pair to enjoy. He makes a point of purchasing the newest games whenever possible, believing they offer the best chance at winning.

As they worked through a recent selection of tickets, each one appeared to be a non-winner except for one.

The Frederick woman scratched her ticket and initially thought she had won $57.

“I asked my husband to take a second look,” she recalled. His reaction immediately told her something much bigger had happened.

“Look at this, the golden ticket!” he shouted at the top of his lungs.

The ticket wasn’t worth $57, it was worth the game’s $57,777 top prize.

The couple said they are still processing the exciting moment and continue to feel “on top of the world.”

“This is truly a blessing,” they shared.

The unexpected windfall will help the couple pay off several bills and fund a well-deserved vacation. Asked whether they would continue playing after the big win, they answered quickly and enthusiastically: “Yes. We’ll keep playing.”

The ticket was purchased at the Sheetz store at 20723 National Highway in Boonsboro. The store receives a bonus of $577.77 for selling the ticket.

The Triple Red 7s family of games scratch-offs went on sale on May 15. The Triple Red 7s Tripler game has four unclaimed top prizes on the market, along with tens thousands of other prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000.
